AOE Units: Custom Jaeger vol. 1
So on that talk of making a new unit in Age of Empires, it's actually really easy. Very.
But, of course there's one hard part. The new-texture part. Now, you don't need a new texture for your unit, but it's suggested to make it more "unique."
Here's the normal Jaeger, by baseline unit.
It's a bad pic, in-game screenshot's never come out good. Ever. But it'll have to do. I got bored and added a series of stroke-borders in a pallatte. It looked passable at the time.
That texture file is really strange, I'll post it below. But, as an outline for 2 units, the Jaeger (left) will have, at least, a modified coding, and modified selection circle (that star under it's feet). The new units, with very creative place-holder names, Jaescutioner and The Jaeger (Hunter), will be of two categories: Light but extremely powerful infantry, and very strong but weaker-attack infantry. The extremely powerful light infantry (LI) will be the Jaescutioner, which, originally, was intended for death-by-firing-squad cuts-cenes when I figure out how to make cuts-cenes. Jaescutioner will have one of, if not the highest attacks in the game.
The Hunter will have very large hitpoints, but a weaker attack to balance that out.
Over the course of writing this shortish post, I've decided on a new name for that "Jaescutioner," Soturi. Finnish for "warrior."
I'm going to review the AOE3 Terms of Use andtry to figure out whether or not it's permitted in this country, to release certain types of mods. If it is, I'll release the XML for the unit in the two files you need to place it, and the texture file (after I figure out how to use it/make it/understand it). And here's that strange texture file now.
This thing's weird. Head (upper left), body (right), strap (grey thing), pants (light grey), some random blue crap (lower left). Makes no sense.
