Firefox 4-point-oh?

Apparently in the future year there will be the new Firefox 4 release. Everyone seems to like it a bit, but personally, I don't.

This new version of firefox completely changes some features I like about Firefox. Yes, I notice I'm not always capitalizing Firefox, but I'm too lazy to keep consistent.

The appearance is a lot more like Chrome, and I don't like the layout of Chrome, personally. I like the new progress bar that is small line underneath the address bar - loved how Safari did that, if I remember right (last used it a year ago).

The thing I've got to complain about - mind you, this can all be changed by release-2010 - is how the tabs are annoyingly above everything, making tab switches longer to do and less convenient, and I'm sure somebody will point out that it hasn't been decided on the location of the tabs.

And just to add one more thing, one of the reasons I like the current Firefox is that Refresh, Back, Forward, stop/cancel, and Home buttons are all in one convenient place, with the rest of the important things directly above them or beside them (or below them, in the Bookmarks Bar). So I just don't like going back to, in my opinion, IE style of separating everything. People like simplicity and convenience, and I think that Firefox 3.5 at least has that. Though at first in this version I couldn't find the delete-cache button.

So there ends my latest rant, one of, like... 2. And if you didn't like it, please remember you are not inclined or obliged to read it, you read it yourself at your own leisure. So don't be a dumb ass, but you may share your opinion below.

  1. Well actually, the back/forward, stop, and refresh buttons are a waste of space. Backspace (back), Shift-Backspace (forward), cmd + R/F5 (refresh), and Esc (stop) work just as well as buttons and are a lot faster than moving the mouse to them. As well as the tabs on top, it makes a lot more sense, because a tab should contain everything, including the buttons and address bar.

  2. Eh, I still prefer the buttons as they are, and even though above-tabs make more sense, I’m just used to bottom ones.
