Plugins for Wordpress

On Twitter, Sean (ZeroAtoms.com) complained that some plugins he's tried for something haven't worked. Truth is, most plugins in the WP Directory won't work for your needs.

About 6 months ago, I was looking for a plugin for I-can't-remember-what. Searched WP.org and all I got was a) Plugins not compatible with WP 2.5 through 2."now," b) plugins that had the words I was searching for in the description, but not in the right order, or c) a completely off-topic plugin. A few actually looked promising, so I tried them.

You get 1 guess for what happened, but I'll spoil it before you try. It didn't work in the way I assumed -- mind you, after reading the description -- or didn't come up to par in some to any way.

Truth is -- no offense to those that put their hearts into making these plugins -- many plugins that you find (on WP.org) are either out-of-date or just not for your specific need.

So, use Google. It might be your friend -- eventually.

Excuse the rant, but I get annoyed by the "6,121 plugins" on WP.org and about 4000 feel or are out-of-date, or unfortunately can't sum up to us very, very, very picky WP-run blog owners.

But for a quick-list on what plugins it's not possible to live without, here. VD.org's got you covered. I'd do a list myself, but it would have nearly all the plugins in it and be a half-copy. 5 Great Wordpress Plugins. Also, don't forget cForms. Contact form, survey form, upload form, and more, fully customizable.
