Sandbox Fun

Now it's time for the gaming-related post for Sean and SlantedMindz, after the Web Design post. No, it's not about sandboxes, but it's sandbox-styled fun: do anything you want. It also happens to be in Modern Warfare 2.

Today -- Friday -- I had my friend Alex over, who many of you know from the forums as Alex and Alejandro. We played some MW2, and eventually one of us thought of old Western movies' gun fights -- you know, 2 lone men stand something paces apart, guns holstered. Abruptly, they reach for their pistols: they cock and aim rapidly; first to shoot surviving, and winning. That's just what Alex and I tried doing.

We set health to really low to ensure a valid first-to-shoot win and chose the default class with the magnum, to ensure to advantage. Then, we'd stand about 30 or so feet apart, with our primary weapons out. We'd count down with a pre-recorded ring to make sure, once again, there was no cheating, and first to switch to magnum and pull the trigger won. We did this for nearly 30 minutes straight.

Note: Don't try it with throwing knives. Judging from the delay between throwing and impact, you will BOTH die no matter what, there's no real first-to-shoot factor there, but it's still really fun.

Anyway, it was quite a lot of fun. Since we were playing on splitscreen, we didn't get to do much else, but we did find the least accurate handgun, the magnum, was deadly accurate at extreme sniper distances, semi-clear view of target providing. I got a headshot just aiming at Alex all the way across the map. We really wanted to try Russian Roulette, with a bunch of other people, but, we were on splitscreen. If my cables come in this weekend I'll record some re-do's of what we did, and if you want to join in, we can try some more handgun games, they're actually pretty entertaining with friends.
