Lately.

Of couse everybody's always up to something, if you're not you're a depressing person. Whther it be getting that high score or achievement in your favorite game, or making some great art in Photoshop, or even, learning how to make mods for a popular strategy game. Major hint.

So, lately, as the title says, I've been reading on how to create mods for a good strategy game I like, and many others like. I love shooters, but when have you wanted to be that guy saying, "Take out that turret," or something like that? Or maybe you just want to create a massive army. I'm mainly liking this game for that last bit.

If you don't like personal or day-to-day life posts, I wonder why you're here. As you should have read at any time on this blog, I don't seem to like teaching other people web dev, or great tips for things. Actually, I'm the one who reads things, because I'd like to know. For any new guys, this is my blog. Not Web Dev blog, not coding tips blog, just blog. Completely general in every topic.

Back on topic, if there is one. Seeing as this blog is so general, everything's on-topic, but then what's off topic? Nothing. So then what's on topic? Nothing, for what cannot be defined by the negative as non-negative is therefor not a positive, and so ensuring that something is completely in limbo and I just confused myself. And you too, I think. On with the original idea for the post.

That game. That game is Age of Empires 3, often with expansion pack Asian Dynasties. I'll be saying AOE3 or just AOE often, so remember that.

What have I been up to? Well, playing the game, of course.

What have I been 'reading?' Tutorials on how to create your own AI (Artificial Intelligence) files that dictate how the 'computer' players play. Sounds confusing, but as long as you don't get into the junk that sounds like some of the major server-side coding scripts for the web out there, you're fine.

What? These AI files go with the 'computer' players in this great thing the makers of AOE made for the game, Screnario Editor. In this, you can create your own custom maps, missions, strory-lines, and more. But, the basis of a good game is in these AI files.

So, aside from AI files, I've been looking at how to make your own custom units. Like, renamed units. You could take the musketeer attributes and rename the file with an anti-infantry model. So, some cavalry guy that screams like infantry and attacks in the same style as one. But looks like cavalry. Like you in a cats body.

My main text? Since google brought me to so many youtube videos on how-to's like how to make a wall - Yes, Simple crap - I was a bit too specific on my search and found a strange site called http://heavengames.com/. But I found the AOE3 section :P
So here's that section, tuts specifically. http://aoe3.heavengames.com/modding/tutorials/index.shtml.

On the Unit-creating, I've hit a brick wall. I need a program that can edit BAR files, and I don't feel like downloading a free download so soon after Conficker's 'update.' So no awesome Finnish unit with a giant attack for me. So, as this post closes abruptly, I'll finish this thing tomorrow. A nice weekend starter. And more on the game, not just AIs and unit-edits and such.

Have a good day. Scheduled posts <3
