New 3-piece Template – Homepage, Postpage, Picpage
Today I finished the template completely, but seeing as it has 3 pages I feel it's at least partly justified in calling it an HTML theme.
This "theme" took a few days, and a bit of help with a few tags, to finish, but in the end it's completely. It's called Paru Kartin, the sounds for some pictures in Russian.
I give credit to where it's due, and even though I designed it and coded most of it, Dan's help with annoying tags that didn't line up, curious background-colors carried over from another tag (we still haven't figured that one out, but it's fixed), and a few tips, my gallery is finished.
I'd release it for download, but unfortunately PHP's being a major ass and wouldn't even let a simple include command work, so I gave no thought to asking VD whether or not he could try making a system where the recent images is updated and ordered by the date of the files in a set directory, and (hopefully) auto-generate a page with that picture, it's name, size, and date of upload.
So that translates into no download until I completely finish every aspect of it - including the stylesheet that will make IE users see only a link to Firefox, and that PHP system.
Well, here's the theme. Check it out. It loads quickly because of there being a max of 4 BG pictures - nav, head, content BG, and content BG end. http://www.fynmark.org/Paru-Kartin/
Damn Router’s Working Again – Update: NO IT ISN’T
If you've been following me on twitter, you'd probably know that my router hasn't been working.
First, it's warranty expired. So tech support sucked. Then they told me I need to pay 30 bucks for a software upgrade.
Turns out it was just an error and it forgot it's exact IP or something (I was just glancing over the shoulder of my way-beyond-computer savvy uncle). But now it's fixed. Finally.
It broke again. LINKSYS FUCK YOU.
I also may be trying to make a new template, like WaldWork. That thing's finished until i can find the damn working browser-based CSS script. I'm going to try a really simple gallery-ish design. If my camera hadn't run out of batteries, or if I had a scanner, I could've shown you. But luck would not have it.
Late-night Accomplishment: I nearly finish “WaldWork”
Late tonight -- approx. 30 minutes ago (on post-time) -- I nearly finished my first theme. With the exception of full cross-browser completion, it's finished short of a few things Dan's said he can help me with.
WaldWork
Backstory on my first theme, or first coded full webpage, ever. It's got one because it sparked me into web dev. I'm also bored.
WaldWork is a theme that was a concept up until about May 8th, 2009. From then on it was a .PSD: an editable, layered picture. After several stages of editing, it became the WaldWork I have coded today.
After the PSD completion, it was just a concept, for I had no idea on how to code it, I felt awkward when I wanted to ask somebody to code it, but I really just wanted to learn to code it. So, after searching a bit, I abandoned my hope of coding it, and proceeded to let the theme gather imaginary cyber-dust. But in the last 2 months or so -- 6 weeks ago? 7? -- I discovered Skype's tutorial and followed the tutorial, and created coded-form WaldWork. So, after returning from vacation, and another two weeks later, I nearly finished every part of WaldWork.
So tomorrow I ask Dan to help with a few bugs and areas.
