Late-night Accomplishment: I nearly finish “WaldWork”
Late tonight -- approx. 30 minutes ago (on post-time) -- I nearly finished my first theme. With the exception of full cross-browser completion, it's finished short of a few things Dan's said he can help me with.
WaldWork
Backstory on my first theme, or first coded full webpage, ever. It's got one because it sparked me into web dev. I'm also bored.
WaldWork is a theme that was a concept up until about May 8th, 2009. From then on it was a .PSD: an editable, layered picture. After several stages of editing, it became the WaldWork I have coded today.
After the PSD completion, it was just a concept, for I had no idea on how to code it, I felt awkward when I wanted to ask somebody to code it, but I really just wanted to learn to code it. So, after searching a bit, I abandoned my hope of coding it, and proceeded to let the theme gather imaginary cyber-dust. But in the last 2 months or so -- 6 weeks ago? 7? -- I discovered Skype's tutorial and followed the tutorial, and created coded-form WaldWork. So, after returning from vacation, and another two weeks later, I nearly finished every part of WaldWork.
So tomorrow I ask Dan to help with a few bugs and areas.
Web Developing
Started looking at Smashing Magazine. Helpful articles. Now to change the topic -- shall we?
If you've been following my blog, you'd know a short while ago I started into Web Dev. I Had a theme for a few months I'd wanted coded, and I finally learned how.
Excluding an IE error where it looks like there's a bit much margin or padding in the footer bar, it went great. View it here. Note: I've only tested it in IE7/FF3.5. But now I've hit a bit of a wall. I know everything else I feel I need to know to create WaldWork -- not past tense, you may notice; I haven't finished WaldWork completely -- but the footer area's a problem.
See, here's the full design. What's already coded excludes the footer area, but not the bar. My wall is that I don't know how to horizontally align elements, without a table. As in, the full footer. Pages|Affiliates|Adspace. Each section contains multiple vertical lines, but I need the whole area aligned horizontally by sections. I have no idea how to do it.
So until I figure out, or ask Dan or somebody, WaldWork won't really be "public public." If you know, drop a comment with the how-to, or contact me via the contact page.
I’ll be gone for a week
I'll be gone for about a week, maybe a bit more; no more than a week and a half approx.
I'll be on vacation, and without internet access. The only thing I'll miss is continued work upon WaldWork -- it's a fully-coded template for several pages that nobody knows about on this here website. Forum members got to see a sneak peak, though there's one bug in IE. Some margin or padding error. I've got a script for auto-switching stylesheets to an IE one if you're viewing the page in IE, so when I get back I'll work on fixing it.
So, I'll be back in about a week. Vacation <3
